I’m Looking for Good Church Members

By: Waylon Bailey ~

I’m looking for good church members.

So are you.

We are all looking for people who can be a blessing to the church and to those who are outside the church. We are looking for people who will make the church what God desires it to be.

Let me give you four suggestions for being a good church member.

First, be positive. In your mind, maximize the strengths of others rather than their weaknesses. Make your default setting to look for the best in other people.

Negative aspects of the church must always be corrected, but being negative will destroy the church.

Paul advised the believers in Philippi to emphasize those things that are pure, right, and truthful (Philippians 4:8-9).

Paul also encouraged the church to be kind, tenderhearted, and compassionate and he strongly called for the church to put away anger, wrath, and hateful attitudes (Ephesians 4:31–32).

Ask any pastor and you will find that they love and appreciate positive people. It makes you a good church member.

Second, be very active. You cannot do everything that happens at a church. It’s futile to try, but you can be an encouragement to others by being a person of prayer, worship, and ministry.
Active church members are good church members.
Third, pray fervently. James told us that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much” (James 5:16).We often miss the aspects of ministry which are most important. We must be people of prayer.

When we neglect prayer, we neglect the power of God. Good church members are praying people.

Finally, seek God. The closer we draw to God the more we are like Him.

The church needs people who can model Godly behavior and Godly attitudes. Those actions and attitudes are indispensable in the life of the church.
A church filled with positive, active, praying church members who are seeking God’s power and presence in their lives will change a community and change a nation.
