Can I Trust God?

~ by Waylon Bailey

Though no one really talks about it much, it’s one of the basic questions of life–“Can I trust God?”

Of all the things we really need to know, this question comes close to the most important in life. We want to know if God knows us and if He will be there when we need Him.

Psalm 139 answers this question with precision and with power.

Psalm 139:1-18 is made up of three basic parts which help us understand God and understand our relationship to Him. These verses tell us that God knows us and that He can be trusted.

First, we can trust God because God knows us. He knows everything about us. He knows when we rise and when we sit down. He knows our thoughts. He understands our emotions.

He also knows what we are going through and experiencing.

We often wonder if anyone understands us–God does. He knows how are made.

Second, we can trust God because He is with us.

Think of the powerful effect of these words.

“Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, thou art there! If I make my bed in Sheol, thou are there! If I take the wings of the morning . . . If I say, ‘Let only darkness cover me,’ . . . even the darkness is not dark to thee, the night is bright as the day; for darkness is as light with thee” (Psalm 139: 7-12).

We simply cannot get away from the presence of the Lord. What a wonderful revelation!

Third, we can trust God because He formed us.

We are special objects of divine love. God knew us in the womb. Each one of us matters to Him. We have been fearfully and wonderfully made!

For these reasons and so many more, we can trust God with our lives and with our future.

Have a great week!
