Easter is Our Super Bowl

Easter 2015 Blog

I smiled as one of our pastors described the importance of Easter Sunday. He said: “Easter is our Super Bowl. It’s the biggest day of the year. If we don’t make it happen on Easter, we have missed a real opportunity.”

While that may be an exaggeration, it is only a slight exaggeration.

Easter is a great opportunity to tell the life-changing power of Christ. It is the opportunity to let our friends know why we worship and why we serve. We do so because of the hope of the resurrection.

Paul made it clear that our only hope is in the resurrected Christ. “If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:19). “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17). The resurrection is everything!

Paul knew the truth. He was an eyewitness: “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20).

Those who were with Jesus from the beginning continued to serve and to risk their lives because they knew the truth–Christ had been raised from the dead!

If all this is true–including the Super Bowl analogy–why don’t we invite our unchurched friends to join with us as we worship and praise the resurrected Lord?

Is there any better time to reach out to the unchurched around us? Though the world is generally illiterate about Scripture, they know that Easter has to do with Christ.

Why not help them know the “rest of the story?”

I urge you to encourage people to worship with you this Easter.
