Lagniappe: Getting Ready for a Busy May

The month of May is always busy – it’s busy for us personally and busy as a church.

So, let me tell you about the things going on in the month of May.

May 5 – Senior Sunday Graduate Recognition where we will recognize our high school seniors. This will be followed by a banquet in the Fellowship Hall for the students and their parents. (Next year we plan to meet for this event in our newly renovated Central Hall!)

The second event of the day is our Discovery Class @ 4:00PM (our last class until August). The Discovery Classes are an important introduction into what it means to be a member and worshiper at First Baptist Church Covington. We think of this class as being indispensable for a good beginning at our church. We hope you will join us. You can register with a pastor in the Hospitality Room, on our website, or with the church office. It’s a 2 1/2-hour meeting that includes a light meal and childcare is provided. I make two promises to attendees: 1) we will not waste your time and 2) we will answer the questions you have about FBC.

May 11-12 – Mother’s Day weekend we will recognize the mothers who are in attendance. We are reminded that God tells his people to “honor your father and your mother.“ Paul mentioned that this is the first commandment with a promise included, “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God has given you.“

This weekend will also include our very important Parent–Child Dedication services. We hope that you will rejoice with these families as they present their children before the Lord and give promises concerning how they will raise their children.

May 25-26 – Memorial Day Weekend we will remember those who gave their lives in service of our country.

We will also have outdoor baptism after the 6PM Saturday service, and after the 11AM Sunday service. These baptisms will be in the Plaza. Let me encourage you to sign up for this baptism.

You can see that it is indeed a busy month, but it is also a month of great opportunities to serve God and to grow in our relationship with Him.
