Psalm 103 is a great song of praise. You probably know this psalm. It begins with “Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”
The remainder of the Psalm makes it very clear why God should be praised and blessed by the worshiper.
The Psalmist reminds us not to forget God’s benefits. The word “forget” in Hebrew means to ignore.
It is so easy to forget or ignore God. We get caught up in all of our daily stresses, frustrations, and activities and before we know it we have left God out of our lives.
While we would like to say that we are wondering whether we can count on God, the real question is can God count on us?
Think with me about all that God has done for us. Psalm 103:1–5 speaks of all the benefits God gives us.
What does He do? He forgives, heals, rescues, crowns us with blessings, and satisfies our souls. Why would we ever wonder whether we can count on God?
What else does God do? He acts like Himself.
God is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and overflowing with steadfast love. He is dependable. You can count on Him.
This is who God is, and He always acts like Himself. He is consistent– – the same yesterday, tomorrow, and forever.
Though we might like to act as if we are judging God, He is really judging us.
God’s love is from everlasting to everlasting. It is never ending. His love is as high as the heavens, and He removes our sin as far as the east is from the west.
God is faithful and true, dependable and patient.
You can count on God; can He count on you?
Have a great week!
