I’m Tired of Cold Weather

signs of the messiah

By: Waylon Bailey ~

I’m not a big fan of cold weather. I’m ready for a break in the weather and a real return of some South Louisiana weather.

The good news is that Easter with all its hope will be here before we know it. To get us ready for Easter, I will be preaching a new series from the Gospel of John.

The title is: “Power, Faith, and Hope: Signs of the Messiah in the Gospel of John.”

Beginning February 22 I will be preaching seven messages from John’s Gospel which show the power of God and the importance of faith. We will conclude with the message of hope found in the resurrection of Christ. I hope you will be with us as we explore the signs of the Messiah.

John mentioned the first (John 2:11) and second (John 4:54) signs which Jesus did. While he didn’t number the signs after that, he showed us again and again the power of God in the person of Jesus.

John’s Gospel is different from the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). Synoptic means “same.” Matthew, Mark, and Luke have a lot of common material while John’s gospel has only eight percent which is parallel to the other three gospels.

John chose from the many things Jesus did and said (John 20:31, 21:25) so that “you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31).

The Gospel of John does three things:

1. It tells us Jesus is ”the Christ, the Son of God.”

2. It tells Jesus offers us life, life that is rich, complete, and permanent. It is eternal life.

3. It tells us how we can receive eternal life by giving our whole lives to God in faith. Through the work of Christ, people like you and me can receive this life which is rich, complete, and eternal.

Please join us as we worship and please invite your friends and family to experience the Signs of the Messiah with you.
