My Favorite Bible Personalities
Do you have a favorite Bible personality?
In some ways, it is hard to think of a favorite personality in the Bible. Is that really the right thing to do? Should you have favorites?
It’s also hard because we don’t “see” or “hear” anyone. We only get to read about them.
For me, it’s really not about personality as much as about admiration. I deeply appreciate faithful, sincere, devoted, and persevering people.
The prophet Jeremiah was all that and much more.
Here’s what we know about Jeremiah and his personality.
He never intended to be a prophet. God called him to speak to kings and nations, but he did not have a bombastic “look at me!” kind of personality. In fact, Jeremiah could be described as shy and retiring, wanting to live simply and quietly. You get the idea Jeremiah could have lived happily in Anathoth (his home town) and out of the limelight for all of his life.
God had different ideas.
God called Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations. God called him to do things that weren’t in his normal way of thinking.
And Jeremiah followed God and spoke God’s Word faithfully.
Beginning today and over the next several weeks, we are going to look at the Book of Jeremiah. The sermon series is entitled “FAITHFUL”. That’s who Jeremiah was and that’s what I want you and me to be as well.
Jeremiah will show us how a young, ordinary man can follow God and proclaim the Word of God to the people of Jerusalem and Judah and the nations of the world.
God calls us to faithfulness and obedience.
Jeremiah will show us the way.
