In the three services this weekend we will be observing the Lord’s Supper. We do this six times a year as a way of following Jesus’ command from 1 Corinthians 11:25 “Do this in remembrance of me.”
Please think with me about the Lord’s Supper… let us remember Christ’s sacrifice and God’s call to live holy lives for Him.
We observe the Lord’s Supper because Jesus commanded us to do so. It is one of two commands in Scripture for the church – the other is baptism. As a church we seek to follow Scripture by observing these two ordinances.
The Lord’s Supper is a way of remembering what Jesus did for us. It does not insure our salvation. Our salvation comes through Christ alone. His death on the cross opens the way to God. As we trust Who is our “once and for all” sacrifice, we have the hope and assurance of forgiveness and new life.
Therefore, the Lord’s Supper is the celebration of what Christ has done for us.
As we remember what Christ did, and as we are reminded of His sinless life – His perfect sacrifice, we then need to look at our own lives in light of His life. Could we ask, “God, am I pleasing you with my life?”
God wants us to live for Him in all things.
