I have noticed through the years that two kinds of people miss out on the blessings of God. God wants all to be saved and no one to perish, but many people miss out on God’s kingdom.
Who are these? The first group is comprised of those who think they don’t need God. They think they have everything they need, and God is not part of those needs. The second group winds up the same way but for the opposite reason. This group simply assumes they will never be good enough for the kingdom. Unfortunately, they also assume that change is something beyond them.
I want to give you three truths about transformation. These are not the only truths, but they are truths which need to be known.
First, you are not condemned to being the way you are now. Jesus came to bring change.
Some people simply give up. For them, the road is too long or the demands are too high. They give up along the way and miss the wonderful blessings of knowing God and experiencing life change.
Jesus came to give us abundant life. Some people fear that they will never measure up and, therefore, they leave God out of their lives.
Second, you are not alone. Because of God’s mercy the child of God is never alone.
This truth plays out in two ways. The first has to do with God while the second has to do with the people of God.
We are never along because of the promise of Jesus. He told His followers that He must go away in order for His Spirit to be with His people. In the flesh, Jesus was limited by His humanity. As He gave His Spirit, He assured us that we would never be alone.
When I give my testimony I mention the two things I have never experienced: I have never been alone, and I have never been without hope. Those are true because of the gift of God’s Spirit.
We are also not alone because we are part of the family of God. I thank God for the church and for people who love me and pray for me daily. Their love makes sure I am surrounded by people who care.
Third, you are part of a great mission that is bigger than yourself. It’s important to remember we do not exist only for ourselves. We have been set apart for a purpose–to carry out God’s plan for His people. We get to participate in an eternal adventure of serving God and carrying out His plan.
God does have a plan for you. He does want you to know Him and receive the joy that comes when we turn our lives over to Him.
Have a great week!
