Three Truths About Christmas

3 Truths about Christmas

By: Waylon Bailey

We all know a lot about Christmas. We spend a huge amount of time preparing for it, saving up to buy gifts, and celebrating this time of the year.

But there may be many things we really don’t know about Christmas.

What is it God shows us about Christmas?

First, Christmas is God’s plan to redeem fallen mankind.

Our ancestors – – Adam and Eve – – rebelled against God and we have suffered under the curse of sin ever since. Our sin separates us from God. It keeps us in turmoil and struggle. Christmas is the plan of God, established before the foundation of the world, to buyback sinful and burdened human beings.

Second, Christmas reveals who God is. John 1:1-18 is the Prologue to the Gospel of John. In it, John the apostle sets the stage for the Gospel that reveals the life, ministry, and purpose of Jesus’ coming into the world.

God is eternal. He is the creator. Through him all things live, move, and have their being. He holds all things together. This Word, who is preexistent and one with the Father, became flesh and lived among us (John1:14).

Third, Christmas is God’s plan to reveal Himself to us and to make us aware of His great redemption.

John described what he had seen, heard, touched, and known.

This is the truth about Christmas: the eternal Word took on the vulnerability of human flesh and dwelt among us.

John testified of having seen His glory, the glory of the only begotten Son from the Father.

In short, Christmas is about God’s revealing Himself and letting us see His perfect and amazing love for weakened and fallen mankind.

Christmas should be celebrated. It should be a celebration of who God is and what He has done.
