Yikes! Public schools begin August 8!
We have a lot to do before August 8 in the form of camps, ministries, and outreach. Let me give you an idea of what we are planning for the remainder of the summer before school begins.
First, we have a mission team in Bogota, Columbia, teaching English as a second language. They are living and teaching at a baptist church in Bogota. They teach and build relationships for two weeks with a large group of people who desire to learn or better learn English. Many–maybe most–of the students want to know why these folks have come from Louisiana to teach English. During the sessions our folks get to answer that question. On the last day of the class, our missionaries have the opportunity to share their testimonies and speak of their faith. Each year a number of people come to faith in Christ. Last year we had 404 students with 144 professions of faith at the school. Pastor Edgar Castano Diaz and the members of his church follow up on these decisions. It is a great way to be witnesses for Christ.
Second, this week we have our High School students at Student Life Camp in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and our Children at CentriKid Camp at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Later our Junior High students will be at camp in Panama City, Florida, July 17-21 and our college students will be gone July 18-21.
Third, we will have two important outreach events on our campus during July. The first is World Changers July 9-14. We will have 300 students from around the country coming to work on housing in Covington and other areas of St. Tammany Parish. This will be a major outreach to our community and will call for many volunteers and workers. You will hear more about this later.
The following week (July 16-21) we will host WinShape camp in our buildings and on our campus. This too is an outreach to the community and brings many people to our facility for a Christian sports camp. We would love to have you take a volunteer role and serve at this camp which is sponsored by Chick-fil-A.
Because of the week of the 4th of July plus the next two weeks taken up by camps (in our facilities), the Tuesday Men’s Breakfast and the Wednesday night ministries will not meet in July. On August 1, everything begins full blast. Please mark August 1 on your calendar and be ready to jump in to the opportunities to serve and to grow.
