Next weekend, we begin a new sermon series from the Gospel of Mark that looks at the last week of the earthly ministry of Jesus. More than any other Gospel, the Gospel of Mark clearly shows the progression of the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry.

The last week consumes Mark 11-16. This climactic part of Jesus’ ministry makes up almost one-third of the entire gospel. This shows the importance of the last week and the significance of the crucifixion and the resurrection. In the hearts and minds of the eyewitnesses, Jesus was no “good man” who preached a “great moral lesson.” He was the Son of God sacrificed for the sin of the world. He was none other than God in the flesh. His crucifixion and resurrection changed everything. It is the most significant week in the history of the world.

We will spend the weeks between now and Easter looking at the eight days delineated in the Gospel of Mark. We will examine what Jesus did and taught during this time.

The series will begin with Palm Sunday, the day of Jesus’ dramatic entry into the city of Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-11). We will move to Monday’s cleansing of the temple. We will examine each succeeding day and conclude with the
resurrection (Mark 16:1-8) on Easter weekend.
